LCPF – Letter Carrier Political Fund

Why the Letter Carrier Political Fund Matters to Every Letter Carrier

Everyday, letter carriers deliver to every home and business in America. But behind the scenes decisions made in Washington, D.C. have a direct impact on our jobs, our benefits, and the future of the Postal Service itself. That’s why the Letter Carrier Political Fund (LCPF) is one of the most important tools the National Association of Letter Carriers has to protect our livelihoods.

What is LCPF

The LCPF is the NALC’s political action committee (PAC). It is 100% funded entirely by voluntary contributions from active and retired letter carriers. Through our political action committee (PAC), the Letter Carrier Political Fund (LCPF), NALC has a voice in Washington; however, that voice could be much louder. These funds are used to support members of Congress – regardless of political party – who stand with letter carriers on issues that effect our jobs, our families, and the long-term health of the Postal Service. The LCPF is not funded by dues. It exists because carriers choose to invest in their future. The Postal Service is a national treasure, but it is constantly targeted by privatization efforts and harmful policy proposals. Never, in any of our lifetimes have workers been under attack as they are right now. The LCPF helps elect and educate lawmakers who understand the Postal Service’s mission and value to the American people.

Why it Matters

Congress controls the laws that govern the Postal Service. As Letter Carriers we are tied to Congress under the US Constitution. There is a section in the US Constitution that gives Congress full control over Letter Carrier’s wages, benefits, and our future. Retirement security, health insurance, worker’s compensation, and federal employee protections are all influenced by Congress. The LCPF supports leaders who defend these benefits and oppose efforts to cut or weaken them. The LCPF allows our union to sit at the table, build relationships, and make sure lawmakers hear directly from the people who deliver America’s mail. Legislation helped codified 6-day delivery, eliminated the prefunding mandate, gave us 3 billion for new vehicles, repealed the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO)- also known as the Social Security Fairness Act (H.R. 82).

It’s not about whether you like politics or your political affiliation. {Democrat, Republican, Independent}. It’s about US protecting our family, our jobs and making sure the USPS is on good financial footing. [There is no Union without its employer]. We protect ourselves with Health, Life, Auto, Home or Rental insurance. Why not protect yourself with job insurance? Evan small contributions make a meaningful impact when thousands of carriers participate. The strength of the LCPF comes from solidarity- carriers standing together to defend the work we do and the service we provide to the Nation. When you contribute, you’re NOT giving money to a politician. You’re investing in your job, your benefits, and the future of the Postal Service. If you didn’t give to LCPF last year, please consider doing so this year. The amount you give isn’t important – participation is. When an increase in contributions, our influence would grow and pave the way for for the passage of our priority legislation. As with all our union efforts, we are stronger together. The easiest way to support LCPF is to sign up for payroll deductions through Postal EASE, which most LCPF supporters do. Carriers can also contribute through Direct bank withdrawal, Annuity deduction or a Family member contribution. The full-time officers of Branch 84 along with the LCPF coordinator Jeff Conroy can provide the necessary forms and/or have the means to sign you up. If interested please contact the branch @ (412) 321-3795 or nalcbr84@nalc84.org. To get more information on how to donate, visit nalc.org/pac.

What the LCPF Does Not Do

  • It does not support candidates based on political party
  • It does not use union dues
  • It does not take positions on issues unrelated to letter carriers or the Postal Service

Its mission is simple: Protect Letter Carriers and the Postal Service.

In a world where political influence often comes with a price tag, the LCPF is how we level the playing field.

Together, we protect our jobs

Together, we defend our rights

Together, we keep the Postal Service stronger

If you haven’t signed up to contribute yet, I encourage you to do so as soon as possible. No matter the size of your contribution, it will make a difference for you and our brothers and sisters.

In Solidarity,

Patrick H. Rothwell
Executive VP
